Arepas are one of those dishes that you remember from the first bite. Simple, filling and full of flavour.
If you want to make them at home, here’s how arepa are made in Venezuela and Colombia: pre-cooked cornmeal, warm water and a little salt. Mix until the dough is smooth but not sticky, let it sit for a few minutes, then form into thick patties. Bake them in a hot pan until golden, then finish in the oven if you want them crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can stuff them with cheese, beans, avocado, shredded meat – anything will do.
